Go through the following steps to see if you can resolve your concerns with an alternation in your set-up. Most of the time problems can be resolved with a review of your set-up.

Do you have the right-sized adapter?

What is the make model and size of your fridge?  Check the maximum output current needed for your device -  including the start-up power draw (which is more than the average operating draw).

If your device requires a higher output than the adapter you are using you will need to purchase a more powerful adapter. g. For larger and/or more powerful fridges, please see our 12.5A Adapter.

Have you checked your connections are working?

You may find it is not the fridge but one of your connection points that has failed

  • Check if the plug and socket are connected
  • Check the fuse
  • Check the power switch on the control panel is on
  • The Compressor starts delay protection 3 minutes after turning on

Have you started the Fridge correctly?

  • You must press and hold the start button for three seconds for the fridge to start. Review the manual for further information

Is the fridge on a flat surface?

The fridge must be used on a flat surface to work

Have you set the temperature correctly?

The left side can not be set lower than the right side

Do you have space around the fridge?

The fridge requires ventilation to run efficiently

Have you packed the fridge too full?

If you are using it as a fridge/freezer make sure the lid can close fully - if not the cold air will circulate into the fridge section and vice versa

Make sure there is plenty of room for the fridge to ventilate. If not, it will have to work much harder/longer.

Have you performed a factory reset to resolve the problem?

How to do a factory reset (Follow the correct steps for your fridge type)

Plastic-case portable fridges - Reset Steps:

  1. On standby (plugged in but powered off), press the set key until the display shows E1.
  2. Press + and – simultaneously until the display shows -188 (or 888 or 000)
  3. Press the power button to restart

Important - Once the fridge has been reset:

The fridge should then be left on for a minimum of 5 minutes to allow the compressor time to start up before troubleshooting can begin (time this step as a watch pot never boils, and patience is key).

Stainless Steel portable fridges (e.g. GH1646) - Reset Steps:
1. Press the power button to turn off the unit.
2. Press + Hold the 'Compressor Speed' button until 888 appears on the temp displays.
3. Press the power button to finalise.

All temps and settings will be set back to default.

Important - Once the fridge has been reset:

The fridge should then be left on for a minimum of 5 minutes to allow the compressor time to start up before troubleshooting can begin  (time this step as a watch pot never boils, and patience is key).

Once you have fully performed the factory reset and waited for the compressor to start up, then see if your fridge displays an error code - Example E1.

Do you have an error code?

Please try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve based on the code:

Error

Fault

Common Fix

F1

Battery protection mode

There are three levels of battery protection.

The default is H(high) and offers the best protection, however, it may cause issues when running from a battery or vehicle using a long lead.

To adjust the protection mode, press Set for 3 seconds, screen flashes H.

If error code F1, set to M(medium) or L(low).

F2

Fan overload protection mode Switch it off for 30 minutes to allow the system to cool down. Please ensure there is adequate ventilation around the fan vents.

F3

Compressor frequent start protection mode

Switch it off for 30 minutes to allow the compressor to cool down.

Ensure the fridge is stored out of direct sunlight in a cool area.

Make sure the vents are not covered by nearby obstructions and air can flow into and out of the vents.

F4

The compressor is overloaded mode

F5

Compressor high-temperature protection mode

F6

Controller detection error Switch off and then on again after a minute. If the issue persists, a connection may be loose due to vibration or a manufacturing issue.

F7

Temperature sensor error faulty sensor terminal; refer to instructions.

F8

Are you trying to use a solar blanket and battery setup or similar?

The solar blanket is likely keeping the charge up to the battery to maintain the fridge.

You need a proper battery monitor on a lithium battery, to check the state of charge. At any voltage in the 12v range, it is nearly flat, ie. 12.9v probably only 20 % charge. When free-camping, unless you have lots of input, eg. 350 to 500w input you will not be making enough power to replace what your fridge is using each day by sundown.
So gradually each day your battery gets lower and lower until it trips out on low voltage, at around 12.5v depending on the current load. With a monitor, you can check your input and more importantly your output each day, and then add power by changing from the vehicle or generator etc. if not getting enough solar input, solar blankets are inefficient in winter.
